In modern times, digital music sales have made CD's become almost non-existent. There's been a surge in all things digital, with one of the most recent items being NFT's. Back in 2013, creative entrepreneur, Nipsey Hussle, decided to merge the concept of giving his fans not just another cd, but also a one of a kind experience as well.He decided to release a mix tape and charge $100 per copy. He got the idea after reading about a restaurant that was charging the same for cheesesteaks. While many think of NFts as rare collectable pictures, utility NFts allow those holding these tokens access to events, memberships and other perks. This added level of value is what Nipsey wanted for his fans.
Along with the purchase of each cd, fans were granted access to concerts, listening party events and even personal mementos from Nipsey's pursuit of music.
This radical move garnered the attention of fellow creative entrepreneur, Jay-Z, who showed his support by purchasing 100 copies. Nipsey had only made 1000 copies and they sold out within 24 hours, earning him a total of one hundred thousand dollars in sales.
What are your thoughts, do you think Nipsey was the pioneer of this whole NFT thing?
